Heavenly Perspective

Do you ever wonder what heaven is like? I do, all the time. In the great picture of eternity, our life on earth is like a pin drop, a millisecond of time. If life here on earth is so short compared to eternity, what do we get to look forward to?

The Bible doesn't give an overwhelming amount of information of heaven, but I think that is for a reason. We do get little glimpses from both the old and new testament of what we can anticipate. We get a pretty impressive image of what the new heaven will look like in Revelation 21. Images of walls made of jasper, sapphire, emerald, and rubies and streets made of gold as pure as transparent glass leave my imagination in awe of the unparalleled beauty we can expect.

No one likes to think about death, but it is a reality that none of us gets to avoid. The thought of death used to paralyze me. I would have to shove the thought out of my mind and think happy thoughts to avoid a downward spiral of a depressing day. Now these little glimpses of heaven give me hope that I have something even greater to look forward to, not something to fear. For me, Revelation 21:4 is one of the most reassuring promises. Yes, I can't wait to see the overwhelming beauty of heaven and be in the actual presence of God, but I am most excited for the promise of peace and no more pain.

What do you envision heaven to be like? What most excites you about the thought of heaven?
