Yes, the golden rule is Biblical. "Do to others as you would have them do to you...sounds so easy right?! And then Jesus takes it a step further, and dare I say He is right. Loving people we love is easy. It's going the extra mile and loving those who have been not so good to us is downright torturous at times. What really adds insult to injury is "even sinners do that." Well, again dare I say Jesus is right. Living differently and loving indefinitely is not an easy task. How are we ever going to convince anyone else that Jesus is the way if we do things the same as everyone else? We are called to be different for a reason. We are set apart for a reason. To be world changers and peacemakers. That doesn't come by loving people who are easy to love. Maybe there is a reason that person has hurt you, it may be because they are hurting too. So next time someone offends you, and your instinct kicks in to toss a jab right back, pause instead. Take a minute to think about Jesus's words and even what that person has gone through to act the way they do. Maybe one kind word could change their trajectory.
