Do you ever make the same mistake and wonder why your heart leads you back to the same missteps? Although the heart is commonly thought of as the way to follow, it does not always lead us in the right direction. The heart can be deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9), which is why we need to lean into God to keep our hearts pure and clean. When we pray like David does and ask God to "renew a steadfast spirit wthin me," we are given the strength and wisdom to know when our hearts are leading us astray. The holy spirit keeps us on track and gives us that little nudge inside to help guide us in the right direction. But even if we feel that nudge the heart needs to be willing to follow it. So the next time you decide to "follow your heart," maybe ask yourself the motive behind the action. Is your heart leading you with love for the Lord and for others or is your heart leading you to selfish ambitions that will lead to its breaking? Let the Holy Spirit guide you and trust the nudges are for a reason and ultimately for your own good.
